My Mission

Let me lighten your load

After 25 years of Customer Service and Management experience that spans multiple fields, I like to think I've come across it all. From my start in the Restaurant Business, to chasing my dreams in Event Planning, to the last eight years in Operations Management for a service company, my skills are varied and my ideas endless. Most importantly, I know how hard it is to keep up with the daily demands of running a business and want to put my skills to use for other small businesses. Whether you need to hand off a couple of tasks from your to-do list to focus elsewhere, need a project completed that you don't have the bandwidth to tackle yourself, or just need to brainstorm and bounce ideas off of someone - I'm your gal! With no commitment or contract required, I can be another tool at your disposal as you need the help. As we all know, sometimes a Manager or Owner just needs a little support.

Let me help you find the light at the end of the tunnel... or at least get rid of a post-it note from your desk.

*** Just need to vent to someone who has been there, done that? I'm all ears!

Wondering if I can help with something you don't see listed above?

No worries, just run it by me!

Honesty is of the utmost importance in my life so you have my word, if I can't handle what you need, I'll be upfront about it. The last thing I want is to look stupid swinging for the fences in the wrong ballpark.

For example, Social Media is NOT my forte!

If that's the support you need, you'll want to look 20 years younger - and cooler - than me!

Allow me to introduce myself:

Hi! My name is Marissa and this story begins many moons ago, in a place far, far away... just kidding - I'll give you the cliff's notes version. Born and raised in Michigan, where my first jobs as a teenager included a cider mill and teaching horse back riding lessons, I found my way into the restaurant industry while still in high school and continued throughout my college days. Eventually I was ready to spread my wings and leave horses, home, and familiarity behind when I made the move to Maui in my early 20's. Adventure of a lifetime, to say the least. Sticking with what I knew, I got a job waiting tables at one of the busiest restaurants in Lahaina where the average turn time on a table was 45 minutes. After several years and working my way up to Management, I had been exposed to every facet of the industry. From washing dishes and cleaning the deep fryer to drowning in Mai Tai orders behind the bar and wrangling daily operations, I experienced it all. I can proudly say I still rock a mean omelet pan! It was an incredible place to call home with found family, but eventually I decided to chase a childhood dream of becoming a Wedding Planner. Being a part of couples' special days was one of the most profound and rewarding experiences. Was it stressful? Absolutely. Worth it? Most of the time! Ha! Hundreds of weddings later, it was a career that I loved that spanned years and coasts. My early 30's found me missing my family and making my return to the mainland - California to be exact. Weddings continued to be my calling in the Temecula Wine Country for several more years until life took a turn. Within weeks of one another, I became a mom and my marriage ended. This new chapter of my life found me starting down a different path out in the Coachella Valley where my family was in the neighborhood to help me navigate my introduction to motherhood. After a period as a Guest Experience Manager for a vacation rental company, I found my new home running a local HVAC company. As their Operations Manager, I had the pleasure of working with an awesome team, building relationships in the community, and tackling all the expected and unforeseen things that inevitably pop up with a busy service company. After eight incredible years with them, I made the difficult decision to step down and launch my own freelance company in an effort to be more available for my son. As he grew and his schedule became more chaotic, the juggling act of full time single parent and many-hats-wearing manager were at odds with one another - thus my new journey! After trading in being on call 24/7/365, I have found the work/life balance I was seeking for my son's benefit and now get to help other small businesses find their success! When not working or sitting field/rink/court side watching my son's games, I love watching and playing any & all sports, reading, baking, attempting puzzles, and snuggling with my Great Dane, Atlas, who thinks he's a lap dog.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and considering The Curated Colleague to help with your business! I look forward to getting to know you!
